Overview

It’s a love story, and Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have officially said “yes” — or in this case, “I do.” On July 3, the “Lover” singer and the Kansas City Chiefs football player officially tied the knot in what was inarguably the most anticipated celebrity wedding of the year and essentially America’s answer to The Royal Wedding.
Since the couple’s August 2025 engagement, the world has been waiting with bated breath for information about the stars’ wedding: Would they do it over the fourth of July (famously Swift’s favorite holiday) at her Rhode Island compound? Would (ex?) BFF Blake Lively be a bridesmaid? Would Swift wear her signature red lip?
Now that the day has finally come and gone, as to be expected when two billionaires — one of whom is the biggest celebrity on the planet — get married, it was a spectacle; with the couple hosting their wedding at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. As if that’s not extravagant enough, they reportedly invited over 1,000 guests and “close friend” Adam Sandler officiated their wedding. Which means that, of course, people on the internet have thoughts. Within hours of their wedding, the couple was already being called out online for taking over midtown Manhattan on a holiday weekend amidst a heat wave and health crisis for the city’s residents — so, that’s a no on immediate wedded bliss. Below, everything to know about the superstar’s supersized wedding.
The MSG rumor was — shockingly — real
In mid-June, rumors first began to swirl that the famous couple were set to get married at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. At the time, it was a shocking, and seemingly outrageous, thought; that the woman who wrote: “They say you bought a bunch of land somewhere, chose the rose garden over Madison Square,” would get married at what’s considered by many to be the palace of basketball. But, we should have known Swift would have a unique wedding venue like MSG up her sleeve, because the queen of Easter eggs essentially told us herself. On June 10 of this year, Swift made an appearance at MSG for game four of the 2026 NBA finals rocking the now infamous “Stevie Knicks” shirt as a nod to the famous Fleetwood Mack singer. With confirmation that Nicks performed at the couple’s July 3 wedding, that shirt – worn inside MSG — now holds an entirely different meaning.
While MSG might seem like a surprising venue choice for the couple, it also kind of makes sense. As people online have pointed out, the scale of MSG allows for both security as well as production advantages, with the venue allowing them to essentially create whatever world they could dream of. On July 4, Good Morning America co-hosts Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan, who attended the wedding, shared BTS details about the venue, with Roberts saying it was an “intimate” affair and Stephanopoulos sharing that the famous couple had created “a garden inside the Garden.”
There was no bridal party
Despite assumptions that members of Swift’s infamous squad – including Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, the Haim sisters, and Swift’s childhood friend Abigail Anderson — would be standing up alongside the singer in matching dresses as her bridesmaids, it looks like Swift decided to go solo. In a statement shared with People, Swift’s rep Tree Paine confirmed that the couple forewent bridal parties, with Swift’s brother Austin Swift standing in as her Man of Honor and Kelce’s brother Jason Kelce as his Best Man.
The bride and groom wore Dior
A topic almost as important as where Swift and Kelce would say “I do” was what they would wear while saying it. And, the couple went with the most haute couture, walking down the aisle in custom looks from French brand Dior, designed by Dior’s creative director Jonathan Anderson. “Christian Dior Haute Couture is delighted to confirm it has created the wedding looks for the marriage of Taylor and Travis,” a statement from the brand read. It’s a monumental moment for Anderson, as his first collaboration for a custom dress with, as another statement read “a world-renowned celebrity.” In addition to Dior, the couple’s shoes were made by Christian Louboutin and Swift wore jewelry from Cartier.
Swift has a long history with Dior, regularly wearing the brand on red carpets and on dates with Kelce.
There may have been up to 1,000 guests
Yes, you read that correctly. Potentially the most outrageous of the couple’s wedding tidbits is the guest list, specifically the scale of it. While the couple hosted an “intimate” rehearsal dinner with 100 people on July 2, permits approved up to 1,000 guests for their big day. And seeing glimpses of the extensive line of guests photographed entering and exiting the venue, it’s not hard to see how they quickly got to that number. Spotted entering and exiting MSG were celebs including: Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper, Jessica Alba, Tom Brady, Laura Dern, Selena Gomez, Ethan Hawke, Ed Sheeran, Zoe Kravitz, Adam Scott and Karlie Kloss. And that’s only to name a few. To be fair, MSG is a big space to fill.
But that didn’t include Blake Lively
Shockingly to anyone who was around for the 2016-era of T-Swift and her girl gang, reportedly absent from the celebration was one of Swift’s longtime friends, actress Blake Lively. ICYMI, rumors about the dissolution of the friendship have been rampant in the wake of Lively’s very public legal battle with actor Justin Baldoni after the two clashed on-set of the 2024 film It Ends with Us. The actors have been in court over mutual claims of harassment and defamation, and Swift was unwittingly pulled into the fray when text messages between Lively and Baldoni mentioning Swift as well as texts between Lively and the singer talking about Baldoni, were made public.
Many reports have said the public feud has put a strain on the former best friend’s relationship, and Lively’s absence from the biggest day of her friend’s life seems like pretty valid confirmation that they’re on the outs. It’s not confirmed that Lively was not in attendance but neither she nor her husband, Ryan Reynolds, were spotted in Manhattan like the other celebs who went to the wedding. In fact, they were photographed in upstate New York on the day of Swift and Kelce’s rehearsal dinner.
Adam Sandler officiated
In a statement released to People, Swift’s reps shared that Swift and Kelce were married by comedian and actor Adam Sandler. While another seemingly unconventional choice, the couple have actually been in Sandler’s circle for the past several years. Reports note that the singer has become good friends with Sandler’s teenage daughters and Kelce made an appearance in 2025’s Happy Gilmore 2, starring Sandler. We’re getting an older Uncle/mentor type of vibe from this relationship, and there’s no doubting that a ceremony officiated by Sandler would be A+ entertainment.
They announced their marriage to the public on the big screen
While the couple may have taken every precaution to ensure the details of their ceremony were private, they didn’t shy away from sharing the fact that they were married at all. Shortly after the reported 5pm wedding start-time, screens outside MSG lit up with “JUST&T MARRIED!,” a play on the couple’s initials and the popular phrase.

A vintage car with the license plate JUST&T MRD was also spotted being removed from MSG after the big wedding.
At least one of their wedding favors included embroidered handkerchiefs
There’s no way people are attending a Taylor Swift wedding and not leaving with some great merch. While guests were spotted leaving the couple’s July 2 rehearsal dinner with what appeared to be monogrammed boxes in hand, country singer Maren Morris gave fans a glimpse into another party favor. On July 4, Morris shared a round-up of photos from her wedding day look with the caption “baby just say yes,” including an embroidered white lace handkerchief with the phrase: “So it’s gonna be forever” along with the date, July 3, 2026 and the location, New York City.
Public backlash to the wedding has been, well, swift
This is Taylor Swift, so it’s inevitable that regardless of whatever she decided to do when it came to her wedding, the internet would have thoughts. But to say the initial response to the couple’s wedding has been intense backlash would be the understatement of the year. In the lead up to the couple’s July 3 wedding, criticisms around their decision to hold it in New York City over a holiday weekend were abound. In the hours leading up to the wedding, major streets around MSG were closed down by the New York Police Department. Additionally, this weekend is set to hit temperatures of 100 degrees in the city, prompting emergency measures and leading to power outages across the city.
With power outages plaguing NYC residents, many people online saw Swift and Kelce hosting an extravagant event as out-of-touch and Marie Antoinette-esque in nature.
this whole thing is actually incredible to witness. Real late-stage Versailles vibes this country has going on right now https://t.co/bb7ouUTxXX

The couple have also been criticized for just how, in the words of T-Swift herself, “charming if a little gauche” the wedding seems — *ahem* emphasis on the gauche.
genuinely everything I read about this wedding sounds entirely made up derogatory and then I scroll and it’s like AP confirms

Specifically, critiques have surrounded the scale in which the couple are getting married and just how, for lack of a better word, tacky it feels to many people. MSG? A billboard marriage announcement? 1,000 guests? Shutting down a major US city on a holiday weekend? It’s a lot.
Which is accurate, but also needs to be checked a little bit. It’s important to note that while there’s two people in this relationship, most of the initial criticisms have been lobbed at Swift, with The Guardian writer Holly Baxter noting that claims around the absurdity of the wedding will be that “Taylor shut down New York” rather than both Swift and Kelce. It’s hard not to feel like an artist whose career has faced – and to some degree been built in response to — misogyny, is again facing it here. Not to mention the fact that the new Mr and Mr. Kelce are far from the first billionaires and celebs to go over the top when it comes to an event or their lifestyle in general. As Baxter notes in her opinion piece, while Swift and Kelce’s wedding might be the current symbol of detached billionaire wealth, they’re not the ones who created it, nor the only ones who subscribe to it.
In early June, singer Dua Lipa wed actor Callum Turner in a days-long wedding extravaganza in Palermo, Sicily. While on a smaller scale, the famous couple’s wedding similarly faced controversy and backlash from locals, after their wedding led to the closure of several public spaces and key locations in the city. During their wedding festivities, locals posted protest posters reading: “Palermo is not for rent. Public spaces belong to everyone. We reclaim the right to live them. Free from private profit.” And all the way back in 1999, soccer player David Beckham and Spice Girls singer Victoria Beckham said “I do” in an ultra-lavish wedding at a castle in Ireland. And yet, both couples received decidedly lower critiques and responses to their nuptials from the larger public. Is it that time has made us less willing to go along with ostentatious displays of wealth? Is it that these couples have been deemed chic in comparison to Swift and Kelce? We’re still not quite sure.
The wedding mood is set to continue
Now that Swift and Kelce have said “I do,” don’t expect the wedding festivities to end just yet. While the public waits with anticipation to see if there’ll be any photos from inside MSG released (fingers crossed!), there could be the possibility of a more intimate — and cinematic — look inside their day. Filming notices around MSG listed photography and video taking place, saying a crew would be filming “in and around Madison Square Garden” in connection with “an event taking place at MSG,” which has lead many fans to speculate that the couple might be turning their wedding into a documentary akin to her 2020 Miss Americana doc and 2025’s Taylor Swift: The End of an Era docu-series.
And as for their honeymoon? If it’s going to top their wedding, it’s going to have to be pretty special. While nothing has been confirmed, reports have said the couple are planning an extensive off-the-grid honeymoon that’ll take them from the Bahamas, to Italy’s Lake Como, Paris, the French Riviera and then Croatia. Wherever the couple ends up, one thing is for sure: the world will be tuning in and for the newlyweds, it’s going to be the opposite of a cruel summer.
